Santa Maria Valley pioneer Mary Winters, on her 80th birthday
Mary Winters was born in Ashton, Illinois, and came to the Santa Maria Valley on a wagon train in 1871. Before her marriage at the age of 16, she taught at the first school in Point Sal. A longtime member of the Minerva Club, she was honored by the club on her 80th birthday.
